Africa has a commitment for development through various regional and international initiatives aimed at rapid socio-economic development, good governance, security and regional integration. Geospatial information plays a pivotal role in achieving the objectives of these initiatives. It provides policy makers and planning agencies foresight to manage growth and change today in a way that is useful for tomorrow.

After hosting three successful conferences on Geospatial themes, we have now embarked upon the fourth Map Africa 2009 – An Annual African Conference and Exhibition on Geospatial Information, Technology and Applications. The conference aims at facilitating interaction, discussion, and collaboration amongst the participants. It will provide a platform to share the latest developments in the GeoInformation field and also promote the products and services among a large gathering consisting of top decision makers from government and private sector to prospective users, academicians, vendors, policy makers and representatives of various national and international organizations working in the arena of this technology. This year we intent to add a new dimension to Map Africa 2009 by organizing an intense dialogue and discussion between National Mapping Agency (NMO) and major end user group of geospatial technologies, in turn, helping a better understanding between the two.
